Peace, Francis M.

We grew up with his music.

He revolutionized rap and hip hop in the Philippines.

He sang “Meron Akong Ano” – a fusion of rap and rock in 1993 – when Kid Rock had not even thought about it and the rap-rock metal bands of today were still babies.

Francis Magalona started it all.

I cannot help but feel sad when I heard that he lost the battle to leukemia and passed away yesterday afternoon. Although he succumbed to the complications of chemotherapy, he fought his battle very well with his blog, his campaign-advocacy, his clothing line, his state of mind as he weaved through the process, his courage, his hope, his faith in God.

I am affected.

One of my best friends – who is also of our generation – is battling leukemia like him. In a way, I wish Francis won the battle. It would have been a flicker of hope.

Perhaps, sometimes, it's not about winning the battle, but the grace and the faith you win when you are in the process.

Francis M. will always be remembered.

Peace, Man from Manila.

You are the Philippines’ rap legend.

There’s no need to shout

Some people use a lot of big words all the time, but when you listen closely, what they’re saying is all fluff.

Fluff, fluff, fluff.

No substance, no depth. It’s all meant to impress.

Some people need to hype everything up. Drama queens. It’s really always about them.

You talk about your issues and at the end of the conversation, the drama goes back to them.

Or some people just need to be at the center of everything. Hog the spotlight, will you?

Or let’s play “wala ka sa lolo ko” contest.

It all begs the question --- whatever happened to quiet confidence?

Kyle files – Enjoying the highs (and lows) of being a Cat Mother

Last Saturday was Kyle’s second visit to the vet. He was supposed to get his 8-in-1 booster shots. Unfortunately, the baby has bacterial infection so he needs antibiotics first before he can get immunized.

I’m hoping the infection will go away soon and that he will get better so he can complete his immunization.

It was also his second time in the grooming station and as usual, he was exhausted after all the habulan with his groomer. Too exhausted, that, when we arrived home, he immediately ate his lunch and dozed off for the entire afternoon.

This is the first time --- ever --- that I wake up at 5 in the morning to clean someone's ears and make him drink his medicine. Parang baby talaga.

He shows his gratitude by being sweet and playful. He kisses me on the nose to acknowledge my presence and welcomes me by the door when I get home.

What used to be my squeaky clean apartment is now littered with cat toys and cat hair. It’s all worth it, though. The apartment will never be the same again… in a good way. =)

Feeling better after a tummy rub =)
